Weather Diaries was recorded between November 2016 and February 2017 at Vale in Worcestershire and Phantasy Sound in London. Erol Alkan produced it, the band added recording and production of their own, and Alan Moulder mixed it. The singles were Charm Assault on 21 February 2017, Home Is a Feeling the next day, All I Want on 26 April and Cali on 1 September.
It reached 11 in Britain, 2 on the UK independent chart, 12 in Scotland, 53 in Ireland and 39 in Japan. Spin felt it had less shoegaze and a simpler sound than the early albums. Ben Cardew of Pitchfork called it promising but never quite satisfying, liked the swirling synths on Lannoy Point and found the glitchy vocal effect that opens All I Want a distraction. A Japanese edition added a 25-minute remix of Home Is a Feeling by Babe, Terror.
