Interplay was written and recorded during the pandemic and produced by Richie Kennedy. The band began in Gardener's OX4 studio and finished at Vada Studios, working through COVID and a legal battle with former managers. Bell said the core of the record was the interplay between the four of them. The influences they named were Tears for Fears, Talk Talk, U2 and Depeche Mode. The singles were Peace Sign on 11 January 2024, Last Frontier on 15 February, Monaco on 14 March and Portland Rocks on 28 March.

It reached 8 in Britain, 1 on the UK independent chart and 2 in Scotland. Metacritic scored it 78 from 12 reviews. Clash's Robin Murray called it perhaps the best album yet of their second arc, and Under the Radar's Dom Gourlay called it the masterpiece the band had been promising since they reunited. Pitchfork's Ben Cardew heard New Order in Last Frontier and Monaco and called Portland Rocks the one classically Ride skyscraper, while saying the album sounded more like a band trying on styles.
