The second single from I Should Coco reached number 20 in the UK and stayed on the chart for three weeks. It first appeared in 1994 on a limited seven-inch from Backbeat Records, in demo versions that the band re-recorded after signing to Parlophone. Sam Williams said that on the re-recordings of this song and Sitting Up Straight the band spent more than an hour getting a drum sound.
Its first live television performance was on The Word in 1995. The video by Dom and Nic puts the band in a bathtub, and the song appears on the soundtrack of Casper: A Spirited Beginning. In 2020 a beer called Man Sized Brew Sir was launched for a livestream show in Oxford, and Mansize Rooster was one of the songs in the opening stretch of the Glasgow reunion set.
