Pumping on Your Stereo was released on 24 May 1999 as the first single from Supergrass. It reached number 11 in the UK and in New Zealand. Goffey said it came together in the rehearsal room over three chords in about ten minutes. Quinn recalled that Goffey did not hit the snare hard enough, so the band clapped over it. The title is "pumping", but the band chose to sing "humping" on the recording, and live they have sung both. At the end the band applaud themselves and Goffey asks "Can we go home now?"

The video, directed by Hammer & Tongs, gives the band Muppet-like puppet bodies, made in conjunction with Jim Henson's Creature Shop. NME placed the song at number 124 on its 2011 list of the 150 best tracks of the previous 15 years. At the 2020 Glasgow show the crowd chanted it into life, according to The Guardian.
