Released on 13 September 1985, it reached number 24 in Britain and number seven in Australia. The 7-inch and 12-inch mixes added a brass section not on the album. A 1990 remix for Mixed Up was a single too and reached number 13 in Britain and 97 on the US Hot 100. The album takes its title from a line in the chorus.
Tim Pope's video puts the band inside a wardrobe on the edge of the cliff at Beachy Head. Smith plays with finger puppets that seem to be voodoo dolls of the others, and at the end the wardrobe tips into the sea and fills with water as the band keep miming. Smith remembered it as the most uncomfortable twelve hours he had spent, with the wardrobe dropped into a tank of water with the band still inside. The Guardian ranked the song fourteenth in 2024 and said the video was the peak of Pope's work for the band.
