Spinner
Brian Eno's unreleased Glitterbug film music, handed to Wobble to treat as he pleased.
Jah Wobble, 1995
- Released
- 1995
The music began as Brian Eno's soundtrack to Derek Jarman's 1994 film Glitterbug, which was never released on its own. In 1995 Eno handed the master tapes to Wobble, who left some alone ("Garden Recalled"), played along with others ("Like Organza") and used some as atmospheres for new pieces ("Steam"). Eno said he had no input at that stage and did not hear it all until it was finished. Wobble and Mark Ferda did the additional recording, mixing and final production.
Pitchfork called it an outlier in Eno's catalogue for its pulsating low end, and heard "Unusual Balance" as dubbed-out Middle-Eastern space metal, with the vocals of Sussan Deyhim. Jaki Liebezeit plays drums on "Spinner" and "Transmitter and Trumpet". "Spinner" and "Left Where It Fell" later appeared on Wobble's 2004 anthology I Could Have Been a Contender.
