The album sets his own pieces beside blues by Blind Boy Fuller, Muddy Waters and the Rev. Gary Davis, and a track credited to a poem by John Donne. Bert Jansch plays guitar on Blue Bones and Noah and Rabbit, both credited to Renbourn and Jansch. Jimmy Duncan, Nathan Joseph and Peter Attwood handled the recording, and Brian Shuel designed and photographed the cover.
Judy, the opening track, and Plainsong also turn up on the 2015 archival collection The Attic Tapes, where Grayson Haver Currin of Pitchfork named both as originals.
