Tony Roberts plays flute and Stuart Gordon snare and tabors alongside Renbourn on acoustic and electric guitar. The first four tracks, The Moon Shines Bright, The English Dance, Bourree I and II and a jig and reel medley, are traditional pieces arranged by Renbourn. The last two, The Pelican at 7:04 and the title track at 11:34, are his own.
The Washington Post praised a "rhythmically engaging 13th-century English dance tune" and a "neatly woven medley of jig and reel". Bob Wagner designed the sleeve and Stefan Grossman took the photography.
