Felt came out on 7 October 2011 on Erased Tapes. The title refers to felt placed on the piano strings, first to dampen the sound for nighttime playing and later because Frahm liked what it did to the tone. Microphones were placed deep inside the piano for a more intimate sound.
Frahm recorded and mixed the album himself at Durton Studio, and his liner notes take the form of a letter that opens "Dear beloved listener". Emil Thomsen mastered it. Metacritic gives it 87 from five reviews. Mike Schiller of PopMatters scored it 8 out of 10 and called it a humble little masterpiece, and Al Horner of Drowned in Sound wrote that you could practically hear the microphones breathing. Familiar and More both turn up on Spaces.
