Murphy cuts his own hair, usually in hotel rooms, and would rather have a bad haircut that is his own fault. A bandmate coined the title after he woke up on tour with his hair suddenly short. He told Dazed that the humor was the point: funny makes it survivable. The song is the scratchiest thing on the album, with Mahoney on drums and a Pop Group energy that Stereogum heard as the furthest the new material pushed toward post-punk. It was first played at the Brooklyn Steel residency in April 2017, listed on the setlist simply as Haircut, and has been played over a hundred times since.
