Home ends This Is Happening by returning to and softening parts of its opener, Dance Yrself Clean, and continues the homecoming theme that had closed the band's previous albums. The Quietus heard a kinship with Talking Heads' This Must Be the Place and called it a plump duvet of a song; Stereogum's Ryan Leas named it one of the barest and most wistful songs of Murphy's career. When it was released, Murphy was saying it might be the band's last album.
It became a staple: setlist.fm logs close to four hundred performances, through to the 2026 tour, and it was played at Madison Square Garden in 2011. A studio-live version is on Electric Lady Sessions. In June 2025 the band officially released Tom Sharkett's edit, which had started life as a bootleg played on NTS radio.
