Theresa was a small Bay Area label, owned by Allen Pittman and Kazuko Ishida, that folded in 1990; this was the first of six albums Sanders made for it as leader, and it opens the Mosaic box of his Theresa recordings, with notes by Mark Stryker. The exact release date was not found, and the length is 72:00 on Wikipedia and 72:51 in the Mosaic review of the reissued CD.
AllMusic's Scott Yanow gave it four and a half stars, writing that Sanders shifts between spiritual peace and violent outbursts in his tenor solos; Billboard in 1980 found something that transcends labels; and Chris May of All About Jazz called it the album that introduced Sanders to a new generation of dancefloor-loving jazz neophytes. Besides the core band, players include Joe Bonner on piano, Mark Isham on synthesizer, James Pomerantz on sitar, Yoko Ito Gates on koto and Phil Ford on tabla.
