It was meant to be It's Only Natural that led the album, but Chocolate Cake was released first, in May 1991. It reached number seven in New Zealand, number nine in Canada and number two on the US Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart, number 20 in Australia and number 69 in Britain. A reference to an "excess of fat on your American bones" was thought to have offended, limiting its US performance. John Hillcoat directed the video, which won Best Video at the 1992 ARIA Awards. The B-sides were As Sure as I Am, from the album, and Anyone Can Tell, an outtake later released on Afterglow.
